The Electric Mayhem Band (hopefully) goes platinum
If I asked, “What was the best rockumentary ever made?” you may respond with Don’t Look Back about Bob Dylan in the 60’s. Maybe the 70’s Gimme Shelter about The Rolling Stones. My personal favorite has always been Woodstock, three days of peace and love baby-yeah! It looks like I may have to soon add another great film to the list and that’s The Electric Mayhem Band. Never heard of them? Oh, no I’m sure you’ve heard them. You’ve even seen them play…just not live. In fact, they’ve never even cut an album.
I’m talking about Disney+’s latest announcement that they’re making a series about the signature muppet band that appears in several (if not all) the muppet films. Always playing the band but never being a band. That may soon come to an end.
“After 45 years of rockin’ out, The Electric Mayhem goes on an epic musical journey to finally record their first studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora, the old-school Muppet band comes face to face with the current day music scene as they try to finally go platinum.” -Disneygeek.com
Wondering whether or not this will be feature length film, a short film-much like their recent Halloween special Muppets Haunted Mansion , or something else. I’m not quite sure. All of the buzz around the announcement seem to use the word ‘series’ so I’m thinking it’ll be made for a Disney+ mini-series much like WandaVision or The Mandalorian. It doesn’t matter what it is, I’ll be tuning in no matter what.
The muppets have always been my favorites to watch. Their adaptation of A Christmas Carol ranks up there with some of my all time favorites, and whenever any muppet makes a cameo on another show, film, TV special, etc. I’m always delighted.
The Muppet band includes Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet. The series will feature Lilly Singh in the role of “Nora” a junior A&R executive tasked with managing and wrangling the The Electric Mayhem Band. No release date has been announced yet, but I’m so looking forward to the 3 M’s: Muppets, Music, and Mayhem.
