Luck O’the Comics
Looking for more Irish representation with your comic sub-list? Here’s a few comics creators who hail from the Emerald Isle.
Hoping to get lucky when it comes to finding some Irish creators who are making great comics? Here’s a handful of Irish-born comic creators so good you’ll pinch yourself.
Garth Ennis
Most notably known for The Boys and Preacher, both of which have been adapted into television shows. The Boys, in fact, are returning this Summer for their 3rd season.
What’s he working on right now? He’s the current writer of Batman: Reptillian, and is wrapping up both Out of the Blue and Marjorie Finnegan, Temporal Criminal.
Declan Shalvey
Most notably known for an IP that’s been getting a lot of hype lately: Moonknight. But he’s also done a ton of stellar work on Immortal Hulk where he wrote, drew, and colored the entire book. You can also find his work on X-Men Unlimited as well as co-writer on Time Before Time and the creator of Bog Bodies.
What’s he working on right now? He’s busy writing a new comic for Image titled Old Dog. It’s billed as a spy thriller that I’m sure will pack some twists and turns. Old Dog is written, drawn, colored by Shalvey with some assists on lettering by Clayton Cowles.
Cian Tormey
Most notably known for everything! Tormey’s worked on tons of titles including: Darkhold, Valkrie, Silver Surfer, Batman, Catwoman, Superman, Batgirl, and more.
What’s he working on right now? Currently he works exclusively for DC Comics and you can see his work on Superman: Son of Kal-el.
So, if you’re looking to add some Irish influences into your comic collection start with these three. Honestly, though, these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Irish creators. There’s so many more working in the industry and not just writing and drawing but coloring and lettering as well. Keep a lookout for them and add a bit of that Irish gleam to your eyes when you’re reading some new comics.
