It’s National Superhero Day: Choose Your Superpower
Growing up, my oldest son would-nearly daily-check the National Day Calendar online to see exactly what day it was. Not the date or the day of the week, but what special day it was. If it was any national food day…say National Hot Dog Day, or National Taco Day, or National Blueberry Pie Day, he’d try to work that into one of our meals. I always thought it was a fun way to mix in a bit of spontaneity into any day that threatened to be boring or routine.
Now I’m not saying today, Thursday, is boring, but I am saying it’s National Superhero Day! On the National Day Calendar website it offers suggestions on ways you can celebrate. These include: dressing up as your favorite superhero, drawing your favorite hero, or taking your hero out to lunch or dinner (not all heroes wear capes, you know). I’m going with this one: choose your superpower.
I’ve often heard it phrased this way: flying or invisibility? Like those are the only two choices. My choice has always been, and always will be, teleportation.
The reasons for this can be practical: I hate traffic. I hate driving in traffic, and with gas prices hitting the $4 mark and up I also hate paying for gas. Solution? Teleportation. Imagine getting ready for work and then-POOF-just teleporting there. You don’t have to factor in drive time, no looking online for wrecks or traffic jams and configuring alternate routes just: POOF.
I also like to imagine that I can POOF to Paris for lunch, or maybe POOF to Italy for a quick espresso. I could POOF to New York for a concert…no plane ticket required, no checking bags, no packing even. Just POOFing to New York, checking out a broadway show and then going back home to your nice warm bed seconds later.
Flying is one thing, and invisibility seems an invitation for hurt feelings, obtrusive behavior, and probably much more trouble than it’s worth. If I don’t want anyone to see me then I’ll just stay home. But honestly, teleportation, that’s the way to go! Could I use it to fight crime? Maybe, but I think I’d use it mostly to make my life easier. Oh, I forgot the milk-POOF. Wanna watch the sun come up over Niagra Falls? POOF. Hate that pick up/drop off line at your child’s school? POOF.
Maybe I’m showing my cards here in that I’m not a fan of idle time. If I had a super villain it’d be a sloth and he’d go out of his way to make time slow down. That’s just it, I hate wasted time, which shows why teleporting would be my ideal. So, what’s your chosen super power, and why?
In any case, happy National Superhero Day! Celebrate by showing love to your favorite superhero or superpower. Or head over to Fanboys Marketplace and check out our selection of superhero toys, pops, apparel, key-chains, stickers, and more! Now excuse me, I gotta’ grab a quick bite for lunch, I’ll be back in POOF.
