This weekend will see the grand opening of Fanboys’ fourth location at Firewheel Town Center in Garland, Texas. We’re super excited for our recent growth and to help celebrate, voice actress Linda Young will be in-store to sign autographs and meet with fans and fanboys.
Linda Young, known best for voicing Frieza from the Dragon Ball Z series. Usually the Dragon Ball Z productions produced by Funimation. But she has a long list of anime voice work to her credit. IMDB credits her with at least 86 voice acting roles spanning over the course of more than three decades. Dragon Ball Z and Frieza make up 27 of those roles, whether it’s a movie, a television show, or video game.
It’s listed that her first voice over role was in 1988, but Young says she got her start long before that. Her interest in acting starting in school, where she showed an interest in theater. In an interview she says she’s a little shy before she gets to know people, but she’s not shy when in character, “From a young age I loved pretending to be other people.” She majored in Theater Arts Communication in college and minored in music, another one of her interests. Working for a local radio station, she did voice work for commercials, which led to small acting gigs. She soon got an agent and started taking any job available.
It was a friend of hers that got her to the audition booth for Dragon Ball Z. She saw an ad in the paper for “some cartoon” and convinced Young to go to the audition. It was there where she first auditioned for several different roles for the series. Later she got the phone call that she landed the role for Frieza. Happy to have the job she expressed her excitement but then asked, “So who’s Frieza?”
In case you may not know, Frieza the main big baddie of the Dragon Ball Z series-considered to be the most iconic villain of the franchise. Frieza is a galactic emperor of an unnamed race who runs the Planet trade organization and is feared for his ruthlessness and power.
