It’s time to shine your batarangs and buckle on your utility belt, Batman Day is this Saturday, September 17th! Traditionally held on the third Saturday of September–the first Batman Day was on July 23rd, 2014. It was scheduled as such to both celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first appearance of the Caped Crusader in Detective comics in 1939. It was also held to coincide with San Deigo Comic-Con. Go figure. Since then Batman Day has been in September…and this year’s is just a couple days away.
Some of us will be wearing our Batman underwear. As well as talking the entire day with as if we have a severe sore throat. We may even purse our lips a little too much. But, if you opt out of roll playing then we’ve got some other ideas of how you can spend the day celebrating The Bat!
First up: Come to Fanboys! I mean, it’s a no-brainer right? You’re reading the blog–it should be the first stop on your list! You can meet the Dark Knight himself and maybe even few of his rogues gallery at our Camp Bowie location in Fort Worth. With every $20 purchase you’ll get a chance to win Batman Legos and Funkos! Also, we have a ton of Bat-merchandise in store too. There’s t-shirts, action figures, Lego sets, comic books, Funko pops, and more. Everything you need to celebrate Batman Day to the fullest.
Second: Cinemark theaters are hosting a Batman Movie Marathon. This is exclusive to Cinemark theaters and are showing in select theaters. The Rave at Ridgmar has tickets still available (I checked)! Here are the movies and showtimes:
- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) at 2:15pm local time
- Batman (1989) at 4:30pm local time
- Batman Returns (1992) 30th Anniversary at 7:25pm local time
Do you prefer to spend your Saturdays at home? That’s okay, you can still enjoy a Bat-a-thon in your Bat-jamas. The TNT television network is showing a Batman Marathon starting at 8am. on TNT or on TNTdrama.com/TNT app anytime.
HBO Max is pulling out all the stops. They’re dropping season one of “Batman: The Audio Adventures” – HBO Max’s first scripted original podcast – which will be available on all podcasting platforms. The streaming channel is also premiering a new animated film: Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios (Clash of the Empires). It’s an original story that brings to life the first Mexican version of the Dark Knight. Set against the backdrop of the captivating history of Mexico and the exciting culture of Mesoamerica.
“Participating comic book shops will have a bevy of free comics on September 17, with two special titles available including: Batman: Hush #1 Batman Day Special, from the seminal work by artist Jim Lee and writer Jeph Loeb, and for younger fans and the young at heart, there is Batman’s Mystery Casebook Batman Day Special Edition a preview of the upcoming DC Middle Grade title by writer Sholly Fisch and artist Christopher Uminga.” –aiptcomics.com
Besides Fanboys, it looks like a lot of local comic shops and other nerd stores aren’t doing much, at least according to their socials! So, make your way to Fanboys on Saturday, grab some Bat-merch, and maybe catch a flick or read a comic. In any event, you can put on that faux rubber suit your wore a few Halloweens ago. Stand on a rooftop and hope a lighting storm will form and make your look super cool and intimidating. Nevertheless, we at Fanboys hope to see you on Saturday and hope you have a grim and gritty Batman Day!
