For some of us, letting A Christmas Story play on loop in the background on TV is already a major part of Christmas. I was one of those weird people who somehow missed growing up with Ralphie and his friends. Which is odd only because I’d tell people I’d never seen the Christmas Classic and they’d look at me horrified. I guess I’m the prime demographic of person who was supposed to have watched-and loved this movie. And…I do! I just came late to the party I guess. Nevertheless, thanks to giant Hollywood Nostalgia Machine, Ralphie and the gang are back! This week the full trailer for A Christmas Story Christmas dropped and it appears they’ve done it once again.
According to Nerdist.com Ralphie’s back! “He and his wife (the always hilarious Erinn Hayes) bring their brood of savvy children back to the house on Cleveland St. for a good old fashioned Christmas. Along the way, Ralphie reconnects with some old friends. These include R.D. Robb as Schwartz and Scott Schwartz as Flick. Zack Ward even returns to play Scut Farkus, now a police officer.” It looks like all the same actors have come back to reprise their roles. Which is always big draw for me, particularly. When sequels can get most or all of the same actors to return, I’m in. “
“Not returning for this film are Darren McGavin as the Old Man and Melinda Dillion as Mother Parker. Dillion retired from acting in 2007 and Airplane!‘s Julie Hagerty has stepped into the role. But McGavin is much tougher to try to recast; the actor died in 2006, and much of A Christmas Story Christmas will deal with that absence and Ralphie’s attempt to fill the void.”-Nerdist.com
Like this year’s Hocus Pocus 2, A Christmas Story Christmas is definitely on my “to-watch-immediately” list when it comes out. Which is on November the 17th, on HBO Max. I know I talk a lot about how nostalgia drives a lot of movies these days, but don’t let me fool you. I love it just as much as the next person. Besides, I’m excited to see what trouble adult Ralphie can get into.
