The Dark Crystal is returning to theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary. But you got to hurry! Today’s the last day to see it, and it has limited showtimes only in a few select theaters!
The Dark Crystal debuted in 1982, pioneered by practical effects and puppet/muppet genius Jim Henson. Henson has done work on several films, but The Dark Crystal is still considered one of his best. It was one of the first full length feature films that had zero live actors and used no digital effects. Even though it opened to mixed reviews it’s gone on to garner several awards. Not to mention it’s cult-like following.
The Dark Crystal is one of Henson’s most elaborate and involved creations when it comes to world building and lore. As a result, there have been graphic novels, video games, a Netflix prequel series, it’s on convention and even an upcoming ballet exploring the world of The Dark Crystal.
Fathom Events and Universal Studio, who are putting on the event, will have a new introduction before the film starts. For moviegoer they will get to see Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company. She’ll be there to reflect on the groundbreaking film, speak to the fandom as well as the legacy of her father, Jim Henson.
I’ve already got my tickets, how about you? Fathom Events has a website showing which theaters are holding event, but I found my movie theater just by hitting up my Fandango movie app. That’s probably the best way to find what theaters close by are selling tickets. My theater only had two show times: 3:30 and 7:30 and todays the last day of the event. So act fast if you want to see this cult classic on the big screen one more time!
