Looking forward to 2023

The ball has officially dropped. We’ve all toasted to our health and wealth and kissed our loved ones at the stroke of midnight. It’s time to stop looking back at 2022 and reflecting on the year that was. Now is the time to start looking 2023 dead in the face and asking ourselves what we want from it. From a pop culture standpoint, there’s a lot to look forward too! So, I’ve made a list-as you do-of the top things I’m looking forward to in 2023. Now, this isn’t a comprehensive pop culture list-it’s my list and I’m happy to share it with you. Without further ado, here’s a short list of the things I’m looking forward to in 2023.

First up, Season 3 of The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian has been and remains my favorite extension of the Star Wars Universe in the past few years. Maybe ever (I still have yet to watch Andor yet so keep that in mind). I loved the first two seasons. I hated The Book of Boba Fett only until Mando showed up, and I can’t wait to see more of Mando and little Grogu. The show is slated to premier on Disney Plus on March 1st!

Second on the list, Brooklyn’s Last Secret, a graphic novel by Leslie Stein. I found Leslie Stein during the pandemic. She stared writing and drawing a comic about a touring rock band to help her get through the pandemic. And, it may be one of my favorite graphic novels ever. She serialized it on her Instagram account, but it’s coming out this year through Fantagraphics and it’s definitely one of my most anticipated books of the year. You can read some snippets on her Instagram account here. You can also download a PDF excerpt on Fantagraphics website here.

When it comes to the MCU, I’ve become a bit dis-enchanted with their recent TV shows and movies. But I’m hoping Ant-man 3 can restore my faith. The Ant-man movies are some of my favorite MCU installments because I just love a movie that has jokes. Give me jokes over serious fights and grimaces any day of the week. And, though Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania looks to be a bit more of a serious movie, with Paul Rudd-all bets are off. Bill Murray even makes an appearance. I’m so looking forward to this movie. Look for it at the movie theater February 17th.

And here’s yet another MCU installment that I’m excited to see the next chapter of: Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. Now, I have to admit that the Holiday Special really didn’t do anything for me. Though I loved seeing Texas’s own Old 97’s on the music credits, and I loved seeing Kevin Bacon being himself on screen. Those things were so fun! But the show as a whole left me pretty stale. Here’s hoping the movie redeems it for me. It hits theaters on May 5th.

I know, it’s a lot of movies but there’s so much greatness coming out I can’t help it. And besides, who would leave Spider-man Across the Spiderverse off of the list? Into the Spiderverse was probably one of my favorite Spider-man films ever and I’m happy to see them explore this world and these characters more. I’m not into the Spiderverse comics as much-it’s a little too much for me to keep up with, but the films are just phenomenal. June 2, look for it at your movie theater.

So, this is my short list of things I’m looking forward to in 2023. Much of this takes place in the first half of the year, but with they way Hollywood and Warner Brothers Discovery likes to shoot things dead and move things back, this is what I can rely on. What’s on your must do, must read, must watch lists? Let us know in the comment on Instagram or Facebook. We want to know what you’re looking forward to come 2023!
