Netflix just announced a new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie has been filmed to mark the 30th year anniversary of the show! The new special is titled Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: Once & Always. The show reunites original cast members from the popular afternoon kids TV show who need to once again, band together to save the world from evil. For 90’s kids, this should press all of those nostalgia buttons.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first debuted in August of 1993. Since then, they remain a pop culture staple. The Rangers have “morphed” into several different iterations from big screen movies to comic books. Still, it’s an unexpected surprise to see the “retro rangers” getting back together for this Netflix special. According to EW the rangers who are suiting back up are: Walter E. Jones (Zack, the Black Ranger), David Yost (Billy, the first Blue Ranger), Catherine Sutherland (Kat, the second Pink Ranger), Karan Ashley (Aisha, the second Yellow Ranger), Steve Cardenas (Rocky, second Red Ranger), and Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam, Black Ranger).
Also joining the cast are special appearances by Barbara Goodson (voice of Rita Repulsa), Richard Horvitz (voice of Alpha 5), and new addition Charlie Kersh as Minh, the daughter of original Yellow Ranger Trini. You can watch a behind the scenes reel of the making of the special here: https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ypm_Ou6NzFs. But we still don’t have a trailer yet. With the special’s air date being April 19th-hopefully we’ll get one soon. The only remaining questionI have are, where’s Bulk and Skull?
That’s not all of the Ranger news though. While Netflix gathers Rangers from the original show, they’re also prepping for a whole new Ranger show. Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury. As Hasbro/eOne reports, “Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury continues the adventures of PowerRangers: Dino Fury, with the team embarking on a journey through outer space.” There they unlock new Cosmic powers and defend the universe against the returning infamous villain Lord Zedd. Look for Cosmic Fury to hit Netflix sometime this Fall.
