Trachtenberg began her career in 1991, on the infamous show Law & Order; it was only for one episode. She also had a onetime part in Clarissa Explains It All. In 1996 she had her first significant part in the Nickelodeon film, Harriet the Spy. She was the main character, Harriet M. Welsch!
In the years following, she had minor onetime roles in TV shows and one TV movie. That was until 1994 when she began portraying the character of Nona Mecklenberg on the show The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Trachtenberg appeared on the show for 14 episodes from 1994 to 1996.
After Pete & Pete, she depicted the character of Maggie Parker on Meego, which aired on CBS in 1997. The show only lasted for one season with a total of 13 episodes. Her most memorable part after was in Walt Disney’s Inspector Gadget, she portrayed the character of Penny.
