Dungeons & Dragons Trailer

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves drops official trailer

The first major panels from San Diego Comic-Con has revealed the trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Cast members Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant joined directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley and producer Jeremy Latcham to share the first details about the upcoming movie. As an outsider-I’ve played D&D just once in my life-my take on the tailer is, it looks pretty good.

My wife and I have been re-watching the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings lately. She kept remarking how those films are just “so D&D.” So, maybe I was already in that head space when all of the sudden I hear Led Zepplin’s guitar riffs start to play once the trailer kicks in. Also, having just watched Thor Love and Thunder last week I got a lot of Guns’n’Roses still ringing in my ears, so keep that in mind. I don’t know if Zepplin is there just to pep up the trailer and set the tone, but if it’s in the movie at all, it’s already giving me heavy Guardians of the Galaxy vibes. That could be good, that could be bad.

Things I liked seeing: a mimic and the gelatinous cube, an Owlbear and Chris Pine in anything other than Wonder Woman. It looks like its packed with magic, spells, action and adventure and seems to have that Guardians of the Galaxy tone. I do love me some jokes. Though that parting shot in the trailer with the slow motion, weapon raised, hero descending upon a threat I’m starting to see over and over, I give it a pass. I dig it. I wonder how D&D fans are feeling about this trailer. As an outsider, I think it looks good.

According to Nerdist.com: “The directors and producers wouldn’t share too many details about the plot. Latcham said the team has a lot of questing; they’re searching for something that will probably solve the issue they’re facing. The directors also noted they worked closely with Wizards of the Coast to get the lore right.” Well let’s hope so. I’ve seen too many star wars sequels where they’re getting things wrong to last me the rest of my life.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves arrives in theaters on March 3, 2023.
