Hasbro Buys D&D Beyond

Hasbro has bought D&D Beyond from Fandom

In a recent press release from Business Wire, Hasbro announced that they will acquire D&D Beyond for $146.3 million dollars. Hasbro, who owns Wizards of the Coast-the Dungeons & Dragons publisher, will join the hugely popular and successful digital toolset D&D Beyond ran by Fandom.

D&D has always been the popular role playing fantasy table top game that you know and love-still is. D&D Beyond is a digital toolset ran and played on the internet. Founded in 2017 and heavily bolstered by the pandemic, D&D Beyond allows fans to create characters and run campaigns by connecting players globally via the internet. It also can supplement your current campaign played on your favorite kitchen table. The two companies have always seemed destined to be together.

Wizards of the Coast reassure their fans that no changes will be made to D&D Beyond, “we have no plans to stop supporting D&D Beyond. The purchases you’ve made, the characters you’ve created, and the campaigns you’ve run aren’t going anywhere.” Which is comforting knowing that there’s been over 10 million users, millions of characters created, and millions of campaigns played throughout the world since its creation.

“This is the perfect next step for the talented D&D Beyond team, who built a transformative digital product that engaged and delighted millions of D&D fans around the world,” said Perkins Miller, CEO of Fandom. “We can’t wait to see what this team will do next as an integral part of the D&D franchise, and I look forward to investing in more brands and products to super serve Fandom’s 300 million+ global fans.”

The transaction has been approved by both by Fandom and Hasbro’s Board of Directors and will likely go down in the second or third quarter of 2022.
