CinemaCon 2022 teases a host of new movies

CinemaCon 2022-Sony’s big convention highlighting what-comes-next with their movie line up-is happening right now in Ceasar’s Palace in Vegas. News from the first day is out, so let’s bring you up to speed about what’s making headlines.

Venom 3

Venom 3 is happening. Which isn’t surprising seeing how popular the character and the franchise has been. Viewers at CinemaCon only got to see a title card, but Sony confirmed it’s definitely in the works.

Ghostbusters 5

Ghostbusters: Afterlife looks like it’s getting a sequel, titled Ghostsbusters 5. With all the goodwill and positive feedback from the Ghostbusters fandom it looks like this film franchise has officially taken off.

Barbie

Audiences got a first look at Margo Robbie as Barbie, and a release date of July 21st, 2023. Casts announcements have stacked up lately with Ryan Gosling playing Ken. Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp and even Will Ferrel have been cast even though we don’t know what parts they’ll be playing.

Across the Spiderverse

Saving arguably the best for last Sony reveals 15 minutes of advanced footage for Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse set to be released on June 2, 2023. Release date for the sequel was also released-slated for Easter Weekend of 2024.

Other notable movies mentioned: Bullet Train coming out July 29th, Where The Crawdads Sing debuting July 15th, and The Woman King scheduled for September 16th. Sony also ended their presentation with their George Foreman biopic scheduled to hit theaters in April of next year.

So what do you think? Out of the movies mentioned above I’m most excited about Across the Spiderverse. I haven’t seen Venom 2 yet, nor Ghostbusters: Afterlife, so this writer has a bit of homework to do.
