Pop Culture Update for May 19, 2022
Some weeks are a trickling stream when it comes to pop culture news, while others are a tsunami. It feels like the latter as this week brought a lot of new teasers, trailers and announcements. Here’s a list of what made it onto my radar, you can check yours against mine in case we missed something!
She Hulk: Attorney at Law Disney finally released the official trailer of She Hulk: Attorney at Law! From this first peek, it looks pretty cool. I’m not sold on the VFX just yet, but less and less does that sort of thing keep me from enjoying the show. My mantra lately is just tell me a good story. Excited to see this when it comes out! New Star Wars shows announced As I wrote about in yesterday’s post, Disney has announced four new shows coming after Obi-Wan Kenobi that debuts May 27th. I have strong feelings about these shows being a Star Wars fan myself. I broke everything down in yesterday’s post so I won’t go into again here, but if you haven’t given it a read, check it out!
Only Murders in the Building extended trailer Only Murders in the Building was such a pleasant break from my usual pop culture deluge of superheroes, Jedi knights, Elvin rings and stranger things. I’m very much looking forward to the second season of this show! An extended trailer was released this week showing even more scenes, revealing subtle plot, and making more wise cracks at Steve Martin. I’m in. Watch the trailer here.
Hocus Pocus 2 gets a release date Hocus Pocus fans can finally mark their calendars! Disney Plus announced the sequel to be out on September 30th, 2022. Just in time to start gearing up for Halloween. Even though some of us may start decorating before then… The new film reunites the original cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as well as a few of the others from the original film.
Umbrella Academy Season 3 Trailer drops Last but not least-having dropped literally while I was putting this blog together-Umbrella Academy Season 3 has released a new trailer. I’m not on the up and up on this show so I’ll let Nerdist.com give you some of the goods. “…season three trailer is here and it is predictably chaotic and fun. From quips about being replaced with a bunch of ‘blobs and cubes and birds and sh*t’ to Viktor poking fun at the Sparrows’ spandex, it is incredibly fun. Also, Klaus is a complete mess who would sleep with his other self if he saw him. But there are a few tidbits that we need to highlight in this trailer too. The Umbrella crew caused a paradox that is swallowing up everything. And they only have, oh, maybe 4-5 days before the rest of existence goes bye-bye. Good times.” Watch the trailer here.
