Rob Liefeld, most famous for co-creating the character of Deadpool, was born on October 3rd, 1967, in the United States.

Liefeld began his comic book artist career working for the top two publications in the world, Marvel and DC comics! During his time with both companies, he would help create characters that we all know and love today. He is an icon within his industry with many credits under his belt. With that in mind, let us jump right into his remarkable career!

The first project Liefeld ever contributed to at Marvel was for an Avengers backup story. This backup story featured the beloved Black Panther. Sadly, this never was published. A DC Comics Bonus Book insert would become his first published work.

Although the bonus book was his first publication, he began gaining notoriety from the Hawk and Dove miniseries, with the first issues being released in October 1988. The following year he became the penciler for Marvel’s The New Mutants series. This series would give birth to his most infamous work, Deadpool.

Now that we have Liefeld’s early years with DC and Marvel Comics covered, let us jump into his time co-creating Deadpool!

Deadpool first appeared in The New Mutants #98 in February 1991. Liefeld co-created the character alongside writer Fabian Nicieza. The New Mutants had two more issues after this; Deadpool, along with other New Mutants characters, became a part of the new X-force series in 1991. The following year he left Marvel to help for Image Comics and would not return until 1996.

In 2004, he teamed back up with Nicieza and began working on an X-force limited series. He also did the cover art for Cable and Deadpool’s early issues. Leifeld did not again work on the beloved Deadpool character until 2010. Liefeld penciled for the first issue of Prelude to Deadpool Corps. He illustrated the following eight installments of the series.

Deadpool may be Liefeld’s most well-known and loved character, but he has contributed to so many other fantastic comics! Some of those many fantastic comics include,

  • Youngblood – 1992 (Image Comics)
  • Warchild – 1996 (Maximum Press)
  • The Avengers – 2006 (Marvel Comics)
  • Avengelyne: Devil in the flesh – 2012 (Image Comics)
  • Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Assassin Nation – 2019 (Marvel Comics)

These are just a few of the many! It was so hard to choose which ones to list! They are all spectacular!

To go over every single credit of Rob Liefeld’s would take eons; the sheer amount of comics he has contributed is innumerable. He has a distinctive art style that fans drool over! Whether it’s the X-Force, Deadpool, or Hawk and Dove comics, he kills it every time!
