Saga Returns

Saga Hits Comic Shops Today (finally)

Saga returns to comic shops today in one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The series by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples returns from a three year hiatus to much anticipation. After having taken an “intermission” in July of 2018 the creators promised the series would be back. They stayed true to their word. Today issue #55 hits the stands, not skipping a beat having left off at #54, but will it be the same? That’s the question in the minds of fans who have followed the series from day one.

Saga, during it’s initial run, garnered both critical and popular praise as being a comic second to none. Chris Arrant on an article published on gamesradar.com puts it like this, “It was fantasy, science fiction, but utterly contemporary in its tone and its aesthetic was so bright and joyful, both in the art and writing…” The fact that Saga was doing something special was not lost on the critics either. Starting in 2013 Saga and company has won the Eisner, Harvey and Hugo awards, to name a few. And since, have won them several times over.

The fervor over this new-uh, next issue is one akin to those long lost Harry Potter days. The ones where Channel 5 news would send reporters and cameras to check out the line of children camped out at bookstores across the world. It feels a lot like that, the kids are older but the excitement is the same. I saw online that one comic shop somewhere is giving this issue of Saga away for free as long as the have them. They’re just so excited it’s is back.
