Spirited trailer brings the Christmas cheer

Is it too early to talk about Christmas movies? Naw! We are well into what I like to call the Holiday Season. It starts on September first and extends all the way until New Years’ Day. That’s four whole months of nothing but awesome holiday vibes. Spooky Season, then Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, do-nothing-week, and then New Year’s Eve! Boom, boom, boom, boom. I love it! I digress… All that to say that I just watched the new trailer for Spirited, the new movie with Will Farrell and Ryan Reynolds and it’s looks great!

A quick disclaimer, I’m a huge fan of the Dickens Classic. I re-read the book every year, and typically re-watch some of my favorite film adaptations. The top of that list are A Muppet Christmas Carol and 1951’s A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim. I always get excited when I hear news of a new adaptation. Whether its a spin on the original concept or another direct adaptation I enjoy watching different iterations of the classic book.

Spirited, it seems, is A Christmas Carol with a spin but on it. Here’s the film’s longline from Apple TV:

Each Christmas Eve, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will Ferrell) selects one dark soul to be reformed by a visit from three spirits. But this season, he picked the wrong Scrooge. Clint Briggs (Ryan Reynolds) turns the tables on his ghostly host until Present finds himself reexamining his own past, present and future. For the first time, “A Christmas Carol” is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale.

It looks like we’re going to get the story from the Ghosts’ point of view this go round. Besides that, there’s (at least one) musical number. And Ryan Reynolds and Will Farrell together in anything and I’m in. It helps that Farrell is also in another of my top favorite Christmas films, Elf.

“Sean Anders (Daddy’s Home, Instant Family) directs with a script he wrote with John Morris. The movie also features original songs from Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land), as well as choreography from Chloe Arnold (The Late Late Show with James Corden).”-Nerdist.com. Spirited is set to hit theaters on November 11th, and then streaming on Apple TV November 18th. I practically already bought my tickets.
