Upcoming cons to add to your calendars.
As the sun rises this Monday morning and the last bit of coffee drips into my mug I’m still thinking about the weekend. If you didn’t know, Fanboys Marketplace just wrapped up Cowtown Horror Fest in Hurst, TX. A big thanks to everyone that came out, especially those of you that shop at the store time and again! If you’re like me, I’m already looking forward to the next convention. Here’s a go-to guide of upcoming cons to add to your calendars.
For this list, I’m keeping things super local. All of the cons below are about an hour or less from the store, very DFW centric. For a wider range check out www.FanCons.com to see a complete list of cons that are state wide. Okay, on to the list!
All-Con, March 10-13, 2022. Located at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre in Dallas, TX.
All-Con is exactly that, a multimedia event that unites fans from all corners of the nerdy spectrum. Fans of sci-fi, art, cosplay, literature, collectibles, roller derby, anime, short films, Otaku, burlesque, games, celebrity guests, contests, pageants, discussion panels, workshops, and performances will have their whole weekend filled at this single event. This year marks All-Con’s 18th anniversary and features 400+ events being held over four days. That’s a lot of con! For more info check out www.all-con.com.
Arlington Comic Fest, April 15-16, 2022. Located at the Bob Duncan Center in Arlington, TX.
Arlington Comic Fest is new to the convention scene! It started out as a small event held at the Arlington library and has since branched out on its own. 2021 marked it’s inaugural year and it’s back in 2022 and has expanded to a 2-day event. ACF brings comic, sci-fi, anime and fantasy fans together for one exciting event. Meet and buy from 70 artists, authors and retail vendors inside the Bob Duncan Center. See more: www.arlingtoncomicfest.com.
Collect-A-Con, May 28-29, 2022. Located at the Fort Worth Convention Center, Fort Worth, TX.
Collect-A-Con’s by line is “The Nation’s Largest Trading Card, Anime & Pop Culture Convention.” Prepare your inner 90’s child because the event features a meet and greet with The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as a free live concert by Vanilla Ice. Um…Secrets of the Ooze, I presume? This event also features a ton of special guest voice actors, the Power Rangers, a live performance of the Pokemon theme song and more. Visit https://collectaconusa.com/dfw/ for more info.
Fan Expo Dallas, June 17-19, 2022. Located at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Dallas, TX.
This is the big one! The largest sci-fi, anime, comic, horror, gaming, film, television and pop culture event in Texas. Every year tens of thousands descend into Dallas to attend the most popular convention in town. This is as close as it gets to San Diego Comic Con for us. Fan Expo has celebrity guests, photo ops, panels, cosplay, artist alley, comic artists, comic writers, anime, gaming and so much more. Plan your visit now www.fanexpodallas.com.
Dream Con, July 15-17, 2022. Located at Esports Stadium in Arlington, TX.
Last but not least on the list is Dream Con. Dream Con is an anime and gaming convention that’s expanded to include the usual convention players: comics, artists, cosplay and music. If that wasn’t good enough, Dream Con “yes, and’s” the convention model by also including staple events such as wrestling, dodgeball, blaster battle and indoor basketball. Their website states, “…it doesn’t matter if you are a novice or an avid fan, this is a place where you will be accepted as you are!” Find out more: https://www.dreamconvention.com
If you’re marking your calendars, it almost adds up to a con every month through July (sorry February)! There’s a few more on www.FanCons.com but they’re further out of town. Feel free to check it out for a full list of conventions coming to Texas in 2022.
In case you need your pop culture convention fix a little more often than once a month, Fanboys Marketplace just announced a few events of our own. Add these to your calendars as well and we hope to see you soon!
